Tip toe...tip toe....

I have noticed that Gabe has been up on his tip toes a lot this week. This is something we don't see very often. I am wondering if his sensory issues are really bothering him. He ran around the pool today way up on those toes when he wasn't in the water. He LOVES the pool so much. He finally jumps in all by himself. That's good and bad becasue now he has no fear anymore so we have to keep an extra close eye on him. My family is great at helping watch for Gabe. My mom and Aunt get paranoid even if he is two inches away. It is nice having the extra eyes around.

I just wanted to say how much I appreciate being able to read a blog from someone who has a child like mine. I am eager to know if you got Gabe a talker - we are waiting for ours to arrive - or if you decided to wait on that.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to share your life! It is never dull, is it?

Hi sarah,
We have not decided on getting a talker for Gabe yet. We have a few more that we want to try out before we decide on what one, if any we are going to get. I really did like that communication breakdowns happened less.
No there really is never a dull moment in our house. That's okay...I kind of like it that way! Let me know how your talker goes? What kind are you gettin?

We are getting a Springboard Lite. We didn't know you could try them out, and that is the one his therapist recommended. Insurance covers it, so we ordered it. It has to last until he turns 8, (he is 4 now) and then they will buy him one more suited to an adult or older child. At his age, they covered 100% if it was less than $3000.

We are trialing the springboard right now. It seems pretty cool. I don't like that I have to record my voice on it. But for way less money I can get over that. Hope your device gets there soon.

I did not realize I would have to record things - GROAN. I thought it was all built in there. I wonder if I can bribe my husband to do it - he'd do most anything for coconut cream pie. Is it pretty easy to operate? Ours should be here next week they said. I am hoping it will work straight out of the box!

Hm...I just re-read the literature we got from them and they say the Springboard lite has prerecorded male, female, and child voices plus the ability to record up to 500 words. I would ask if the rental one is an older model or something. I sure hope so for my sake!

The springboard does come with pre-recorded messages and words. But if you want your son to be able to say his name you will have to record the message. I will try to post gabe using his so you can see what I mean. On the vantage it has a program included called dec talk which is synthasized speech the springboard uses prerecorded digitized speech. But yours should come ready to use out of the box. Do you know what set up you are using? We do the child 32 location set up. Gabe said "I want to play on the computer" A whole sentence that he put in himself! I was amazed.
